Bai Shao 白芍
Properties: Bitter, Sour, and Slightly Cold.
Channels: Liver, Spleen
Functions and indications: nourish the blood regulate menstruation, astringe the yin suppress sweating, soften the Liver alleviate pain, stabilize the Liver yang. Used for blood deficiency chlorosis (iron deficiency underlying), irregular menstruation, spontaneous and excessive sweating, night sweating, hypochondriac pain, and abdominal pain, contracting pain of the fingers, headache vertigo.
炒白芍 Chao Bai Shao less cold in nature, enhanced ability to nourish the blood, harmonizing the collaterals, regulate the spleen and liver and alleviating pain. Often used for diarrhoea with abdominal pain due to disharmony between the spleen and liver.
Usage and dosage: 6-15g.
Caution: not to be used with li lu.
