Properties: Bitter, Sour, Astringent and Neutral

General Functions and Indications: nourish the blood regulate menstruation, astringe the yin suppress sweating, soften the Liver alleviate pain, stabilize the Liver yang. Used for blood deficiency chlorosis (iron deficiency underlying), irregular menstruation, spontaneous and excessive sweating, night sweating, hypochondriac pain, and abdominal pain, contracting pain of the fingers, headache vertigo.
炒白芍 Chao Bai Shao less cold in nature, enhanced ability to nourish the blood, harmonizing the collaterals, soothes the liver and harmonizes the spleen, stop diarrhoea. Used for alternating diarrhoea and constipation due to liver/ spleen disharmony with irritability, tendency to depression, lateral costal pain, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, fatigue. Painful diarrhoea due to liver/ spleen disharmony with abdominal pain which persists after defecation. Dysentery due to either spleen qi deficiency or damp heat in the large intestine
Usage and dosage: 6-15g.
Caution: not to be used with li lu.
