Bai Zhu 白术

Properties: Bitter, Sweet, Warm.

Channels: Spleen, Stomach

Functions and indications: invigorate the Spleen nourish qi, damp drying, promote diuresis, suppress sweating, and prevent miscarriage / calm foetus. Used for Spleen deficiency, eating less, abdominal distension and diarrhoea, phlegm damp causing dizziness and palpitations, oedema, spontaneous and excessive sweating, restless foetus.

炒白术 Chao Bai Zhu It strengthens the spleen and harmonizes the stomach, more appropriate when middle jiao fails and transforming and transporting function is affected, causing poor appetite, distention, fullness and lethargy. Can also be used for spontaneous sweating and for calming the foetus.

Usage and dosage: 6-12g.
