General Functions and Indications: Dispersing wind and Cold, clearing nasal passages, dispelling wind-dampness. Used for wind-Cold headache, nasal congestion and runny nose, congested nose, nasal abscess, itching caused by rubella, damp bi and constriction.
Cang Er Zi (Chao) 苍耳子 (炒) The uncooked herb dispels wind and stops itching. Once processed it will open the portals of the nose, eliminates dampness, stop pain. It is used for Sinusitis, rhinitis due to wind cold which stagnates in the portals of the nose with nasal congestion, incessant rhinorrhea frontal headache. Rheumatic complaints due to wind damp lodging in the muscles, the channels and network vessels or the joints with generalized pain painful limbs, loss of mobility. Cold dampness with severe pain aggravate by cold or at night. Damp heat with pain, redness, swelling and hot joints
Usage and dosage: 3-10g.
Cautions: Over usage and dosage can lead to vomiting abdominal pain and diarrhoea. Several Materia medica texts discourage eating pork while taking this herb.
