General Functions and indications: Astringes restrains that which is escaping, it is better at inhibiting sweating, securing the essence and stops bleeding and binds up the intestine. Often used to treat night sweats, spontaneous sweating, spermatorrhoea, vaginal discharge, uterine bleeding, diarrhoea etc.  Spontaneous perspiration, night sweats due to qi def, yin def yang dessertion. Spermatorrhea with erotic dreams due to kidney qi not securing, weak low back and knees. Chronic incessant diarrhea due to spleen/ kidney deficiency. Metrorrhagia due to chong and ren not securing. Abnormal vaginal discharge due to dai mai deficiency. Sores which will not heal over.
