Pao Jiang Tan 炮姜炭

Properties: Bitter, Pungent, Astringent, Warm.

Channels: Spleen, Liver, Kidney

Functions and indications: Warm the channel, stop bleeding. Warm the spleen stop diarrhoea. Used for deficient cold syndromes, vomiting blood, blood in stool, excessive uterine bleeding, and yang deficient diarrhoea. Metrorrhagia, menorrhagia due to chong and ren not securing with scanty, continuous bleeding. Hematemesis with vomiting of blackish blood, epigastric oppression. Pospartum abdominal pain due to blood stasis caused by cold with retention of the lochia, pain in the lower abdomen aggravated by pressure and cold. Diarrhea due to vacuity cold of the spleen and stomach with abdominal pain.
