General Functions and indications: Calm adverse rising qi, resolve dampness, stop cough prevent asthma, moisten intestines release the bowels. Used for accumulation of phlegm, abnormal rising of qi, cough asthmatic breathing, dryness in the intestine and constipation.

Su Zi / Zi Su Zi (Chao) 紫苏子(炒) Uncooked it eliminates phlegm, downbeats qi, moistens intestines, frees the stool. Once processed it Warms the lungs, scatters cold, eliminates phlegm, calms dyspnea. It is used for Cough asthma due to either phlegm cold accumulated in the lungs and spleen qi deficiency with thin, clear phlegm chest and epigastric oppression loss of appetite or phlegm accumulated in the lungs and kidney qi deficiency with abundant phlegm, dyspnea on exertion.
